ID#: C00710MNYCP03
RSIC#: CCC-710
CODE PKG NAME: MCNP5-exe 1.30
MCNPDATA & VISED
Release 1.30 - Executables-only
COMPUTER: PC, MAC OSX and Sun
PACKAGED: 05/19/2003
MOST RECENT UPDATE: 03/17/2005
**********************************************************************************
MCNP5 executables, data libraries, and a Windows Visual Editor executable are included
in this distribution and are the same files as those in Package ID C00710MNYCP02.
Differences from the original C00710MNYCP02 / MCNP5 1.30 release:
- Source files and LA-CP-03-0284 Volume III were omitted from this release.
- To this package, executables that run under Sun Solaris 9 were added.
MCNP5 is distributed on three 80-min. 700MB CDs. One CD contains GNU compressed Unix
tar files that can be read on Sun, Linux or MAC OSX. The other CDs are for Windows
users and install the executables and libraries in the same step-by-step automated
fashion common to many Windows programs using InstallShield.

Assume your CD-ROM drive is called "cdrom" and type the following commands to
create subdirectories under your present working directory & extract files.
The code extracts to "MCNP5" directory. Data files extract to present working
directory, so you should create a directory before extracting files.
gunzip -c /cdrom/MCNP5_RSICC_1.30.tar.gz | tar xvf - [extract code to dir MCNP5]
mkdir mcnpdata
cd mcnpdata
gunzip -c /cdrom/data_new_a.tar.gz | tar xvf - [extract mcnpdata files to .]
gunzip -c /cdrom/data_new_b.tar.gz | tar xvf - [extract mcnpdata files to .]

G4 MAC OSX 10.2.6 with Absoft Pro 8.2
32-bit and 64-bit Sun Solaris executables that run under Sun Solaris 9.
The included Visual Editor executable runs only under windows and will be
expanded to MCNP5\Vised by the Windows installer.
See Documents and Manuals subdirectories expanded to your computer for MCNP5 reports.
We refer you to the following web site for current documentation on each data library:

. For users without web access,
the Windows distribution CD contains a dump of this website in Data_WebPages.tar.gz.
Dynamic storage allocation is supported on all systems.
Parallelism with both MPI is supported on Windows or Mac.
For plotting geometry, cross-sections, or results, X11 must be installed on your PC.
An X-windows server is required to display the X11 graphics.
Suggested servers include ReflectionX, Exceed, and XFree86.

See the Documents and Manuals subdirectories for the MCNP5 reports. The
Visual Editor runs only under windows; the executable and report
will be expanded to c:\MCNP5\Vised by the Windows installer.
We refer you to the following web site for current documentation on each library:
http://www-xdiv.lanl.gov/projects/data/nuclear/mcnpdata.html. For users without web access,
the UNIX distribution CD contains a dump of this website in Data_WebPages.tar.gz. A
browser is required to view these documents which are written in a variety of formats
including html, pdf and txt. Expand the files to your hard drive and open file
data_doc/datahome.html; then click on “Nuclear” in the blue bar near the top of the page.
At LANL MCNP5 was tested on SGI IRIX64; HP/Compaq Alpha; IBM RS/6000; and Sun
workstations; on Pentiums running Linux and Windows (95,98,ME,XP,2000); on
Apple G4 Mac OSX 10.2.6; and on Itanium Linux with Intel 7.1.
Executables are included for Windows, Linux & MAC, so users who want to run these
executables do not require a compiler. Other computer users must have compilers.
Compilation of MCNP5 requires both Fortran-90 and ANSI C standard compilers. Dynamic
storage allocation is supported on all systems.
Parallelism with both MPI and PVM is supported; however, the developers highly
recommend using MPI because that is the basis for nearly all parallel development
and testing for MCNP5. For plotting geometry, cross-sections, or results, X11 must
be installed on your PC. An X-windows server is required to display the X11 graphics.
Suggested servers include ReflectionX, Exceed, and XFree86.

In the C00710MNYCP02 package, the Visual Editor executable will be written to the
MCNP5\Vised directory by the Windows installer, but the link to run it is set to
the main MCNP5 directory. The simplest solution is to copy the MCNP5\Vised\vised.exe
file to the main MCNP5 directory so that the shortcut will find the new executable.
