RSIC CODE PACKAGE CCC-527

1. NAME AND TITLE

LISA4: Code System for Long Term Isolation Safety Assessment.

AUXILIARY ROUTINES

PREP: Statistical Preprocessor.

SPOP: Statistical Postprocessor.

2. CONTRIBUTORS

Joint Research Centre, ISPRA, Italy and Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute, Tokai-mura, Japan through the NEA Data Bank, Gif-sur-Yvette, France.

3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER

Fortran 77; Amdahl 470; IBM 3033, VAX/VMS, Sun Workstation.

4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED

LISA4 estimates radiation exposures which may affect future generations, as a consequence of radionuclide releases from nuclear waste repositories.

5. METHOD OF SOLUTION

The LISA4 code analyzes different release scenarios from waste repositories situated in sedimentary formations (argillaceous strata and seabed sediments) and includes the following functions: decay chain evolution of the source term as a function of time, radionuclide release from the repository and migration through porous media by diffusion and advection, radionuclide dispersion into fresh-water or sea-water bodies, pathways to man and dosimetry. The Latin Hypercube Sampling technique is employed.

6. RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS

Restrictions are subject to the dimensions of variables.

7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

The simulation depends upon the parameter TMAX, which is the time cutoff. The sample case took about 1 hour on the VAX 8800.

8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

LISA4 was developed on the Amdahl 470 and runs on the IBM 3033, VAX family and Sun workstations.

9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

A Fortran 77 compiler is required.
