RSIC DATA LIBRARY DLC-010

1. NAME AND TITLE OF DATA LIBRARY

AVKER: Neutron Kerma Response Function Data and Retrieval Program.

2. NAME AND TITLE OF DATA RETRIEVAL PROGRAM

No retrieval program is included in the package.

3. CONTRIBUTOR

Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

4. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND AND INFORMATION

Not applicable.

5. APPLICATION OF THE DATA

DLC-10/AVKER evaluates fluence-to-kerma factors for any desired composition that can be made from elements in the library. These data can be obtained either as kerma factors at 816 energy points within the energy range 0.023 ev to 19.2 MeV or as kerma factors for a specified group structure averaged with flat or 1/E weighting.

The quantity kerma (kinetic energy release in material) is evaluated by an integration over energy of the product of the kerma factor and flux density at any spatial position. The macroscopic kerma factor is determined by a multiplication of the microscopic kerma factor by input nuclear densities of the elements of a given composition. If the nuclear densities are in units of 1024 atoms/g, the output data are in units of (ergs/g)/(neutron/cm2). Other units, such as rads or watt-sec, may be obtained by altering the input nuclear densities.

6. SOURCE AND SCOPE OF DATA

The original library was compiled for use in computing energy release in tissue and heating in various materials. The elements compiled for the first library are:

H, 6Li, 7Li, Be, C, N, O, F, Na, Mg, Al, Si, P, S, Cl, K, Ca, Fe, and Nb.

The cross sections used were based on the CCC-17/O5R and ENDF/B libraries except for P, which was compiled by M. Solomito, J. J. Ritts, and H. C. Claiborne, and F which came from GAM-II.

7. DISCUSSION OF THE DATA RETRIEVAL PROGRAM

Not applicable.

8. DATA FORMAT AND COMPUTER

BCD/EBCDIC card images; IBM 360/370.

9. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

The sample problem ran in 1 minute on the IBM 360/75 computer.
